What is PCOS ?

PCOS (Polycistronic ovary syndrome) is a problem in which women experience irregular periods or the development of small cysts filled with fluid on one or both sides of the ovary. This disorder affects 7% of the women around the world. The cyst contains immature eggs called follicles. The follicle fails to release eggs regularly every month.

The exact reason for this condition is unknown, but early treatment can reduce the risk of PCOS.

Symptoms for PCOS:-

 Symptoms for PCOS start around the first menstrual cycle, but in some cases, Symptoms might show up afterwards. 

  • Irregular periods—having an irregular menstrual cycle are common signs of PCOS. 
  • Too much androgen—a high level of androgen hormone may result in excess facial and body hair, sometimes severe acne.
  • Polycistronic ovaries—many follicles containing immature eggs may develop around the edge of the eggs and might not be released.
  • Obesity commonly occurs with this disorder and can worsen complications. 

Causes :-

While the cause of this disorder is still unknown ,but still some things are taken into consideration, like 

  • Excess weight—it is said that it happens due to excess weight gain, even though PCOS helps to gain weight. 
  • Higher level of androgen: Androgen is a male hormone; if oversecretion of this hormone happens, it might prevent the eggs getting released from the ovary. High levels of androgen cause excessive hair growth and acne.
  • Insulin resistance: Insulin is a hormone that regulates sugar levels in our blood. Insulin resistance might lead to oversecretion of androgen, causing other symptoms of PCOS.

 Treatment to cure PCOS :- 

 If you see any symptoms related to it, it is recommended to consult a healthcare professional.

  •  Healthy lifestyle: maintaining a healthy lifestyle might help you to deal with this, like eating healthy food, doing exercise regularly, and avoiding smoking and drinking. 
  • Medicine: doctor’s might prescribe a few medications like hormone contraception or metformin.
  • Emotional health: PCOS causes mental stress, so you should do something that might relieve the anxiety, like doing things that makes you happy, going out for a walk, etc.

 Natural Remedies for PCOS :-

1: Mulethi (liquorice) :

Research shows that it decreases the level of androgen and increases production of estrogen (female hormone).Add mulethi root powder to hot water and drink it.

2: Flax Seeds: 

Flax seeds contain compounds that decrease the level of androgen in the body. Add flax seeds to your daily diet, or consume them directly. 

3: Cinnamon :

Research shows that cinnamon can correct menstrual irregularities. It can be added while preparing tea daily. 

4: Chamomile tea: 

Research shows that Chamomile tea can reduce symptoms in animals, but more research on humans is required. You can consume it by using a bag of chamomile tea.

 5: Nirgundi(chasteberry): 

It decreases androgen and increases estrogen. It is very beneficial .

 A balanced diet can also be beneficial . A healthier lifestyle and diet containing nutrients will also be helpful. 

 Conclusion:-

PCOS is a condition in women, and there is no cure for it currently, but by taking a few steps and maintaining a healthy lifestyle, you can prevent the condition from worsening. Before taking any other medications, or if you see any side effects from using any kind of remedy, consult a doctor and stay healthy.
